If you are reading this page you are more than likely at the point where you need to legalize USA documentation for use in Dubai or one of the other emirates that make up the UAE. This however can be a long, arduous, confusing and expensive process. Since the UAE is not a member of the Hague Convention they do not accept Apostilles (a more simplified version of legalizing documents). After reading this post you will have a better understanding of how to accomplish this feat.

STEP #1

The first step in the process is to have your documentation notarized by a notary that is commissioned in your state, commonwealth, or jurisdiction. It is important to find out whether or not your documentation needs to be notarized before proceeding to step #2.

STEP #2

The second step in the UAE document legalization process is to have your documentation Certified or Authenticated by the secretary or department of state. This must be done in the state, commonwealth, or jurisdiction where your documentation was originated or notarized. Some states (like New York) require that documents first be Authenticated by the county clerk's office prior to you submitting them to the secretary or department of state for Certification/Authentication.
